At present, Digital Radiography System (DR) is becoming one of the common types of equipment in modern animal hospitals because of the convenience and fast image acquisition, clear image quality as well as lower operational technical requirements.

The more pixels you use for DR the better image resolution. As a matter of fact, when the pixel is higher than a certain point, the image quality goes an opposite way. 

Accordingly, what factors will affect it?

1. Parameter settings 
   • The setting range of DR 
   • The capability of the high-voltage generator 
   • The operating system 
2. The conditions for the casting
   • For digital systems, a wide exposure condition can get a qualified image. In other words, the exposure tolerance of digital systems is large. But this does not mean that exposure conditions can be set at will. If the exposure conditions are set unreasonable, it may cause underexposure and overexposure phenomenon.
3. Exposure time
   • In general, for chest X-Ray, especially for pets with shortness of breath, too long exposure time can cause motion artifacts, resulting in unclear edges of the image. So a short exposure time of 0.04s will be better. Even if the pet with shortness of breath is examined, it will generally not produce visible motion artifacts to the naked eye.

   • For the use of animal DR film, image quality and the animal itself also have a certain affection. Mainly include exercise, obesity, and mood, etc. It may have an impact on the shooting. So before shooting, it is necessary to keep the animal calm, avoid excessive exercise. Otherwise, it may prone to blurred images or artifacts.

The principle of digital system imaging is more complex. The influence factors of image quality are even more than imagination. So only with fully understanding these principles and influencing factors, combining the performance ability of the equipment itself, correct usage of the machine, then we can achieve real, effective, and high-quality images.
